Meeting with Scrapping Girls

Oh!!! I'm so baaaaad ....... I forgot to mention that I met some lovely scrapbooking ladies the other day at Highpoint Shopping Centre. And amazingly, all of them came from miles away, and I'm the only person who lives nearby. Chris Millar was in town for a few days. So there was this little gathering that was organised with Fiona Leehane, Mel Nunn and somehow, Shirley Chai invited me along. And I had a very very fun morning, chatting, laughing, having lunch.... It's amazing when you see those names frequently published on scrapbooking magazines, and you somehow conjure up an image of them (it's all good, don't worry! :) ). When you meet them IRL, they are soooo different, to the image I had in mind.

Anyway, I feel so lousy for not reporting about this gathering you'll think I'm not even half sincere. But honest to heavens, I had a very very good time. I felt so high-spirited after that, that I actually went home and baked a cake! I am just horrible at blogging.

****************************************************************************

Not long to go before our drive up to Coffs Harbour! We are leaving on Saturday, in the wee hours of the morning. It will be a 7-8 hours drive to Parramatta, NSW, plus stoppage. We are also having dinner at this very popular Malaysian restaurant at Parra. Can't wait. Then we'll stay the night, and proceed for another 7-8 hours drive to Coffs Harbour, where our holiday awaits us. Pool, beach, no cleaning (well, ... not that I do much cleaning at home anyway), no cooking (ummm... same as cleaning), .... just spell r-e-l-a-x-a-t-i-o-n for me, ladies! We will be there for the week.

****************************************************************************

Anyway, today I got some good news from a magazine, which I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share yet, so I won't. Hey, it's not often I get to play this teasing game, so just indulge me, will ya? All I can say, is I can't wait to get the next issue of this mag!!!

OK... that's all for now.

8-day blog (long one... grab a cuppa)

Ooops.... I'm falling behind the blogging scene again. It's has just been a week (and a bit) of birthdays and parties and lots of stuff.

Saturday - January 13th

We went to attend Athan's birthday party at a playcentre, called Dizzy's Castle. It is a themed party room, but I don't think the children cared very much. They were happy to disappear into the jungle gyms, kiddy play areas, jumping castle... and parents were happy to be left alone. Now, Dizzy is an aqua dragon. See Dizzy's Castle's website. But Dizzy (the mascot) doesn't look too cute IRL, even in the eyes of adults. So when he/she made its guest appearance at the party, my son didn't take it too well.

During the cake cutting, I was quite peeved with the 'cake cutting staff', for no better name. The cake was a Mickey Mouse cake. She started cutting the cake from Mickey's shoes which were yellow. My daughter, was a fuss pot fair enough, asked for Mickey's shorts which were in red. But she refused to cut the red part of the cake for her, explaining that the shoes and his legs have to finish first before she can cut the red shorts. So the poor girl was sitting there, feeling miserable while waiting for every damn soul at the party to be served with Mickey's shoes or legs before the staff finally got to the red shorts. I mean.... for crying out loud... it's just a freakin' cake! JUST CUT IT!! Are there rules about cutting a birthday cake?? Especially a kid's birthday cake? What was she so tight about?

Sunday - 14th January

THE CROP!!!!! It was such a fun day. Katie and I made the girls decorate a head band. The head band has to have their own preference of coffee or tea, and how they have it. They also need to attach 2 bells on it. The purpose of this, was the person who wants coffee / tea, will have to put that headband on, and the lovely host, Katie will get them ready. So we all had a good afternoon, bobbing our heads and ringing the bells, requesting for coffee and tea! Of course, while at Mornington, you just cannot pass up the opportunity to visit Paper Square. Just HAD to step in there.... inhaled the smell of paper, bought a few things (no paper cos I'm on a paper ban) and walked out $35 poorer. I bought basic necessities though... paper holder dividers. kekeke....

Tuesday - 16th January

I turned 37 years young today. By 9am, I was spoilt rotten by my husband. I got a DSLR camera as a birthday present. Not just a simple DSLR for me to play with, but a Nikon D200. *insert shock horror emoticon here* On top of that, a very expensive, whizz bang lens - 18-200, F3.5-5.6, vibration-reduced.... god forbid I know what all that means. You see, I only wanted a better camera, one better than my digital camera so it doesn't take 7 years to focus on history. I have NO IDEA what photography really is. So I'm actually embarrassed to tell people, especially the pros, I have this monster of a camera. The pros are going to look at me.... and go, "who the hell are you?" LOL

That afternoon, a few of us - Jane, Vita and I (and just a few kids) had lunch at Ruey's place. My favourites - beef rendang, curry chicken, and rice. Then we had a birthday cake - Chocolate Mousse cake, where the kids had to fight over who blew which candle (cos I only allowed 3 candles on my cake).

That evening, we had to take Ellen for her 4yo immunisation. She was fine until we sat in front of the nurse. She started fighting me, and naturally, after the 1st jab, she screamed blue murder and cried a river. The 2nd jab had more resistance from her too. Afterwards, she walked out with both arms hanging out as if they were in a cast, still sobbing and weeping. So to soothe her, we promised her McDonald's for dinner. Fast as lightning, she forgot her pain when I was at the counter ordering. So birthday girl had McDonald's for dinner.

Then we had a power failure at 8pm. For those who don't know, Australia is suffering from drought in a very bad way. For the past few weeks, we have been having severe bushfires all over the state of Victoria (where we are). Although they are no where near us, they still endangered our power supply. On this stinking hot day, 43 degrees celsius (109 deg Fahrenheit), we had a power failure. At 8pm. Can you imagine - no air conditioning, no fan, no TV, no phone, no computer, no lights!!!!! All my basic needs!!! We had to cut my birthday cake in candlelight, I had to shower in candlelight, kids couldn't go to bed cos their rooms were so hot it'll probably roast them alive, and they are tired and bored and there's nothing we can do in darkness! Felt so helpless. At 10pm, the power came back. Phew!! We finally put the kids to bed.

What a strange and eventful day for my birthday!

Thursday - 18th January

My FIL's name day (Greeks celebrate that more than they do birthdays BTW). So I had to take the kids over for dinner without my husband as he had to go to a work function. Apart from that, nothing much.

Saturday - 20th January

Mikaela's birthday party. I brought my new fancy camera there to test out and experiment on some settings. It was a real smooth operator, I tell ya. Now I just need to learn how to adjust some settings manually.

Sunday - 21st January

A rest day for me. Lots of scrapping to catch up.

Monday - 22nd January

Dog day. The child care centre I send my kids to, were recently bought over by ABC Childcare Centres. They are basically a mogul in this industry in Australia, close to a monopoly, slowly wiping out small centres, or buying them out. I have never heard of good reviews of them, and now I'm convinced, that they have got to be the shittiest, most unprofessional people I've had to deal with. To trust these people with my kids? I don't think so. I've finally pulled the plug, and pulled my kids out of childcare. So I officially have no more children-free days from February onwards. For those who know me, my Mondays and Thursdays were once upon a time, my most precious days of the week. LOL

How I'm convinced? The Centre Director is plain blunt and tactless. During her first week, I was just trying to strike a conversation with her, and asked how her first week has been. She plainly said, "Oh, I'm still trying to clear the mess they left behind." I happen to have a good relationship with her predecessor, and I don't think she was "messy" with her work. Nevertheless, you should never bad-mouth your predecessor! It is just a clear sign of how immature she was. Then I had issues with my public holiday fees. The previous owner of the business, Kids Campus, lifted the charges on public holidays. In other words, on public holidays when they close for business, we don't have to pay for the day because our children are not being cared for, which is the RIGHT THING TO DO by any count, right? ABC decided to charge us now, which we weren't informed. So I kicked up a stint. They "fixed" the bill, but nevertheless, we have to pay for public holidays from now on even though they close for business!!

Today, has to top the list of bad things they can do. Since I'm pulling my kids out, I asked for my deposit back. This refundable deposit was paid way back when we first enrolled our kids in the centre. I enrolled Ellen when this centre was privately owned, by a man with initials NC. Then he sold the business to Kids Campus upon retirement. Then I enrolled Phaedon through Kids Campus, also paid a refundable deposit. Now that I want to take my kids out, our mogul of an ABC, turned around and told me that the deposit I paid NC had nothing to do with them!!!! WHAT LOGIC IS THAT????!!! I was so dumbfounded. Anybody with half a pea brain will say that THIS IS WRONG!!!! I know this is a matter of pure laziness. Because they don't want to dig deep enough, they don't want to go that far, so it's just easier to say, they can't help. And for that stupid Centre Director, to even have the audacity to relay that message word for word without editing it, infuriates me. I stared at her with fire in my gut, and asked her if she actually knew what she was telling me. She even asked me to go hunt down NC to sort it out with him. WTF??????? I need Dizzy the Dragon .....

So ABC, if you are reading this.... rest assured that I will not leave a single stone unturned and I promise to make your existence a living hell, if you can't even do something so simple as to check the records. I will report this matter to ACCC, and every media you have ever heard of, just because you refuse to entertain my claim of $100 refund. I'm not letting it go until you refund my money. You hear me?

Phew... ok.. vent over. Forgive me, my friends, I am a bit passionate when it comes to principles, and when people are just being lazy, passing the bucket and not do their bit to be a decent human being.

Just sharing a layout I did with my December Poppy Ink Kit.

Have a great week ahead, everyone.... bar ABC.

Only ask if you mean it

Remember that horrible tonsilitis I had before Christmas? Well, they have never really gone away. Even though my "drug dealer" friend had given me some Amoxycillin, the pain just came and went, came and went. So I finally went to see my doctor on Tuesday. His diagnosis - I need a double course of Penicillin. Amoxil is not enough for me apparently. He believes after the Penicillin, I should be OK. But if not, we might have to explore "options".

Options.

OK.... options are good ...... but I'm not so sure about it when it could mean something bad.

But I believe what he believes ... that I should be OK after the penicillins, right? Right.

That same afternoon, I got a call. From a telemarketer. Sounding all cheery and happy... he asked me ".... How is your day today?"

Hoping to end the conversation there and then, I said. "No, not too good actually." It's the truth, my throat is hurting, I don't really feel like talking. Not that I feel like talking when my throat gets better, but he doesn't need to know that.

"awww... that's too bad. Michelle, the reason I'm calling is... " ....

ARE YOU SERIOUS??? YOU'VE GOT TO FREAKIN' KIDDING ME!!!

A little annoyed, but still keeping my cool, I let him do the talking. Then he asked me what I thought of the last CDs I bought from them. I said I didn't like it. And that's the truth again. I bought these CDs (a collection of 5) after I saw their TV commercial. I know the commercial plays excerpts of the CD, but I stupidly believed the list of songs they displayed on screen. I thought I will be getting my favourite song in the 1st CD instalment. Obviously, I didn't and I wasn't prepared to pay for 5 CDs before I got my favourite song. So I stopped straight after the 1st CD. And I told the telemarketer why I didn't like it - because what they advertise, is never what I get. They only advertise all the great hits... but they always spread them out over 5 CDs... and in between that, they stuff some unknown songs which I'm not familiar with.

And you would think he gets it after I bag the crap out of their products? He didn't. He went on to ask me, what other songs I would like to hear.

Please just turn the machine off and let me drift to sleep and never wake up.

Clearly he was never trained to take a hint. So I had to stop him and say, "Look, I'm not feeling the best today, so I don't wish to continue this conversation. Thanks for your offer, but I'm not interested."

Next time, when you don't really want to know how the other person's day was, don't ask. Don't ask because you think that is what you should say when you want something in return. Don't ask because it is in your script. Don't ask because that's what everybody else is asking. Don't ask for the sake of it. Ask because you mean it. Ask because you really care about that person's day. Because I tell you what, we won't be so offended if you didn't ask. We would be offended if you asked and didn't care to listen! So ask me how my day was, and I'll spend the next 15 minutes pouring my heart and soul to you, which you'll have to listen because you meant it. And then if you are still around after my account of drama episodes, I might just consider buying your crappy products!!!!

Tonight, we went to my BIL/SIL's place to celebrate my nephew's 2nd birthday. He has become the cutest boy. He loves being a Greek boy, and often asks his parents to turn on the Greek music so he can do his Greek dances. It was just hilarious!

This was the card I made for him. Looks nothing like a birthday card, I know. But hey..... it's birthday wishes from us all the same. lol....

I made this layout with Creative Imaginations lined scalloped paper, Bam Pop papers and diecut tags and shapes, Prima flowers, American Crafts Thickers and rubons, Heidi Swapp Bling.

Title: Schmoozing Miss Ellen

And I made this birthday card for my niece (well, I call her my niece even though she is the daughter of DH's cousin). Photo was printed on Bazzill, flowers are SEI Doodley-doo Girl paper, letters are American Crafts rubons. I quite like the effect!

I am going to Katie Toland's place for a crop with 10 other girls on Sunday. It's going to be HUGE!!! It's going to be FUN!!! Can't wait!!!!

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend! Take care.

My new year so far ....

Oh .... where do I start? It's been 2 weeks!!! Once again, I fell off the blogging wagon. I'm sorry if you have been coming here in vain.

Well, let's see.

We had the most wonderful New Year's Eve. We were invited to my BIL/SIL's place for dinner. I didn't have to prepare anything. Just brought ourselves, and had the best dinner. They had barbequed chicken wings and prawns!!!!! A very good friend of hers brought a pasta salad which was just soooo simple and flavoursome. Peter and I sat at the dining table where all the food were, while most of them dined outside on the patio. I swear, I was just going for the prawns, like there was no tomorrow. I think many people were just lazy to peel the prawns. But I don't have a problem peeling prawns. The peeling process is part of the enjoyment of having prawns - sucking and slurping the juices of the shells (and head) .... oooohhh.... yummm.... I would have had at least a dozen and more (and they were LARGE prawns).

After that we stayed for poker game, taught my SIL and her girlfriend how to play the game, and we all had a ball just watching them place their bets. It was just too funny. Kids crashed on the couch... then midnight came, there were some lovely fireworks on display all around. And we continued out poker game till 3am in the morning. My FIL came up the winner.

There is nothing much that happened for the 1st week of 2007. Apart from my tonsilitis still not going away and I finally saw my doctor and gave me a double course of penicillin (and he said that if this doesn't work, we might have to explore options .... WHAT OPTIONS?????!!!!!!), everything else is good.

I hope you are having a great year so far too. Here are some layouts I did over last week or so.

10 years - EDM December LO #1
Journaling: A decade of experiences. Some were great memories, other I cannot wait to forget. But throughout the ten years, I have always been surrounded by wonderful people. Then there were friendships, now I have something more - my family.

Other journaling spots read
- Asst. Producer for Cool Dance '96. This was one of the most memorable experience I have ever had. Just meeting all the people!!!
- Weekly Friday drinks with Rosalyn, Denise and the colleagues of EDS. These were always filled with fun and laughter... and ... some alcohol.

Life as a Phaedster - EDM December LO #2 (If you don't know by now, Phaedon is my son's name.)
Journaling: For 3.5 years of my life, I've got my mum wrapped around my little finger. I can get away with almost anything with my cutest grin. Then I give her my infectious chuckle, and that always works wonders. I still get my time-outs every now and then, but it's not hard to get back into her good books. She loves my cuddles and kisses. And she melts everytime I say ... "I love you TOOOO!!!!"

Mothering You - EDM December LO #3
Journaling: Yes, you might say you've got me wrapped around your little finger, but you may not know that I do have some tricks up my sleeves, to make you behave like a nice little boy should. What can I say??!! I am a mother. And I need these surviving tips! The best buy so far - kitchen timer! Not only is it used to set the time for your time-outs, it is also used to limit how long each of you have before you have to give up a toy you are fighting over. MOst times, you will forget even before the time is up! This is just one of my secrets. All you need to know, is that most times, I think three steps ahead of you!! It's my job, my daily routine and my life at the moment!

Fun ... is what you make it - This is a DT layout for The Scrapbook Scene. Using Fancy Pants Clair de Lune papers. The close up shot will show some 3D elements on the LO.

Father-Son Rule - This is my December DT LO for Scrap Pile. I used the Scenic Route Rockland kit that is now available in the store.

Journaling - Like the Father-son rule in the sport of Aussie Rules football, you are not required to go through any stringent selection criteria. You can and will play in my club, anytime. Because like your father, you are a champion in my heart.

By the way, if you have never visited Scrap Pile's forum, you are welcomed to come and have a lurk if you'd like, or even join in the fun. We have our Weekly Scrap Bingo games you can join to win prizes. On Friday, 12th January 2007, there will be a cyber crop where there are challenges and ..... you said it... more Bingo games. You have up to Sunday to post your layouts in the gallery. Of course, there are prizes for everything! CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS!!!

OK... that's all folks. Till next time....
