Only ask if you mean it
Remember that horrible tonsilitis I had before Christmas? Well, they have never really gone away. Even though my "drug dealer" friend had given me some Amoxycillin, the pain just came and went, came and went. So I finally went to see my doctor on Tuesday. His diagnosis - I need a double course of Penicillin. Amoxil is not enough for me apparently. He believes after the Penicillin, I should be OK. But if not, we might have to explore "options".
Options.
OK.... options are good ...... but I'm not so sure about it when it could mean something bad.
But I believe what he believes ... that I should be OK after the penicillins, right? Right.
That same afternoon, I got a call. From a telemarketer. Sounding all cheery and happy... he asked me ".... How is your day today?"
Hoping to end the conversation there and then, I said. "No, not too good actually." It's the truth, my throat is hurting, I don't really feel like talking. Not that I feel like talking when my throat gets better, but he doesn't need to know that.
"awww... that's too bad. Michelle, the reason I'm calling is... " ....
ARE YOU SERIOUS??? YOU'VE GOT TO FREAKIN' KIDDING ME!!!
A little annoyed, but still keeping my cool, I let him do the talking. Then he asked me what I thought of the last CDs I bought from them. I said I didn't like it. And that's the truth again. I bought these CDs (a collection of 5) after I saw their TV commercial. I know the commercial plays excerpts of the CD, but I stupidly believed the list of songs they displayed on screen. I thought I will be getting my favourite song in the 1st CD instalment. Obviously, I didn't and I wasn't prepared to pay for 5 CDs before I got my favourite song. So I stopped straight after the 1st CD. And I told the telemarketer why I didn't like it - because what they advertise, is never what I get. They only advertise all the great hits... but they always spread them out over 5 CDs... and in between that, they stuff some unknown songs which I'm not familiar with.
And you would think he gets it after I bag the crap out of their products? He didn't. He went on to ask me, what other songs I would like to hear.
Please just turn the machine off and let me drift to sleep and never wake up.
Clearly he was never trained to take a hint. So I had to stop him and say, "Look, I'm not feeling the best today, so I don't wish to continue this conversation. Thanks for your offer, but I'm not interested."
Next time, when you don't really want to know how the other person's day was, don't ask. Don't ask because you think that is what you should say when you want something in return. Don't ask because it is in your script. Don't ask because that's what everybody else is asking. Don't ask for the sake of it. Ask because you mean it. Ask because you really care about that person's day. Because I tell you what, we won't be so offended if you didn't ask. We would be offended if you asked and didn't care to listen! So ask me how my day was, and I'll spend the next 15 minutes pouring my heart and soul to you, which you'll have to listen because you meant it. And then if you are still around after my account of drama episodes, I might just consider buying your crappy products!!!!
Tonight, we went to my BIL/SIL's place to celebrate my nephew's 2nd birthday. He has become the cutest boy. He loves being a Greek boy, and often asks his parents to turn on the Greek music so he can do his Greek dances. It was just hilarious!
This was the card I made for him. Looks nothing like a birthday card, I know. But hey..... it's birthday wishes from us all the same. lol....
I made this layout with Creative Imaginations lined scalloped paper, Bam Pop papers and diecut tags and shapes, Prima flowers, American Crafts Thickers and rubons, Heidi Swapp Bling.
Title: Schmoozing Miss Ellen
And I made this birthday card for my niece (well, I call her my niece even though she is the daughter of DH's cousin). Photo was printed on Bazzill, flowers are SEI Doodley-doo Girl paper, letters are American Crafts rubons. I quite like the effect!
I am going to Katie Toland's place for a crop with 10 other girls on Sunday. It's going to be HUGE!!! It's going to be FUN!!! Can't wait!!!!
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend! Take care.
